Happy Halloween!

For those that celebrate this fun holiday - Happy Halloween!  It's a great day to laugh and have fun, dress up or dress the kids up and visit the neighbors and collect insane amounts of sugar!  Great for helping the kids bounce off the walls!  Be safe and remember if you have any suspicions at all about what's in the candy basket, throw it away!

With Halloween comes the start of the holiday season, some say Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday and shopping season but we're feeling it already here on the East Coast.  The weather has finally changed from "that's enough heat already" to now the "heat is on" to keep us warm!  The leaves are changing colors, the skies are crystal clear and blue, and air show season has come to a close for most parts of the US.  I was able to make the local air show recently and it was a great pleasure to get out from behind the computers and all the work on our future version of Logbook Pro to breathe in the wonderful smells of aviation and remember what it's all about.

I wish everyone a wonderful remainder of 2007 which is rapidly coming to a close.  I can tell you that 2008 is going to be one of the most exciting years since NC Software took its first breath over 10 years ago!  We thrive on innovation and we are taking Logbook Pro to new levels in the coming months, a very exciting and much anticipated time!

Daylight Savings Time Ends - Attention APDL Users

Daylight Savings ends on Nov 4th at 2:00 AM (USA). For a list of changes worldwide click here. On or after Nov 4th, uncheck "Daylight Savings is in effect" on the "Timezone Settings" preferences page.

  • If you are importing trips after Nov 4th wait until you have unchecked "Daylight Savings is in effect".
  • If you have a trip that starts before Nov 4th, Import the trip. Then switch to your Logbook Timezone and manually correct the times after 2:00 am on Nov 4th.
Logbook Pro for MAC

MAC OS X "Leopard" is now out and MAC sales are higher than ever.  And yes, I have added to that statistic!  MAC's are neat, no doubt about it, they have the most elegant user interfaces but will never replace Windows as far as software availability and developer support.  For those that have "crossed the fence" to the land of MAC, don't worry, you can bring Logbook Pro with you!  There will always be the need to run Windows, there is just too much out there that's exciting to use and make "that computer" do something other than documents, e-mail, and internet.  And who wants to buy all new licenses to go along with your new MAC, ouch, that can get extremely expensive!  Introducing VMWare Fusion - the mother of all Windows emulators for MAC.

There have been Windows emulators on the market for quite some time so you can run Windows on your MAC.  However, you may not have heard of one of the best - VMWare Fusion!  We at NC Software have been using VMWare products for years for our software and quality assurance testing to ensure our software works on all Windows operating systems from Windows 98 to present and in various configurations.  VMWare has emulation down to a perfect science, it's fast, it's easy to use, they have it right!  And to my amazement, it's cheap!  At only $59.99 after rebate, this is one of the most affordable and simply the best, in my opinion.  So go ahead and enjoy your MAC and fire up VMWare Fusion, no reboot required, to use the best logbook software, Logbook Pro, for your flight logging needs.

To learn more, please visit the VMWare Fusion web site Click here for details on the rebate offer.

New Videos Available

Nobody likes to read boring technical manuals and sometimes "close the book" before really seeing what the resource has to offer.  We believe in video tutorials and will continue to use them to help show you how to get the most out of the hard work we've invested in building a software application for you.  We put together a 14 minute video to explain the affiliate program so you can join, send an e-mail, and get paid!  No web site required!  We also put together a 14 minute video on the new schedule importer for our APDL users.  It shows you the full capability of the new and significantly improved schedule importer software.

Holiday season approaching - earn cash!!!

The shopping season is drawing closer and this is a perfect time of year for YOU to make some additional money!  Any person or company that comes to our store and buys anything using YOUR referral link, we pay YOU commission on the sale!  We have been thrilled with our new affiliate program and love sending out the checks at the beginning of each month as it makes us feel good rewarding those of you sending customers our way.

The affiliate program is FREE to join and you don't even have to be a registered customer.  If you are reading this and you want to make a few extra dollars and quickly buy yourself our software for yourself based off of commissions alone, join now.  It takes a few minutes, we'll review your application, approve it if it meets the requirements and you're off and earning money!  You do NOT have to have a web site, you can create text links which you can e-mail to your friends, family, co-workers, you name it!  When that person clicks your link a cookie will be stored on their computer giving you credit for any sales made within 30 days of their visit.  They don't even have to buy when they view the link in your e-mail.  They may download the software, try it, return for purchase and you still get paid for their sale!  So what do you have to lose?  Sign up today, watch a brief video of the system to learn more and let us put your name on next month's payouts!

Palm Desktop and HotSync Discussion

Windows Vista users - Palm Desktop 6.2 BETA is now available.  Click here to download it now.  I've been using it personally and it works great!  Kudos to Palm!

Is your HotSync configured properly?  Every now and then we'll get a support ticket about APDL not syncing or showing as unregistered by the PDA Wizard, etc.  99% of the time this is a Palm "HotSync" issue and not an issue with Logbook Pro's PDA Wizard.  Logbook Pro actually has no interaction at all with files on your Palm device, it simply reads the PDB files located on your hard drive typically located in C:\Program Files\palmOne\{Your Palm Username}\Backup.  If data is not getting to Logbook Pro from APDL it is a problem with HotSync, not Logbook Pro or APDL.  The problem is typically that HotSync is not overwriting your backed up data on the PC with new data on the PDA.  Your HotSync "System" or "Backup" conduit should be set to "Handheld overwrites Desktop" to ensure the files on your PDA are overwriting the files on your PC (Desktop) and then Logbook Pro will pick up the new data on the next run of the PDA Wizard.  This issue does not apply to Logbook Pro's Palm Companion as we do a direct database synchronization unlike APDL where we read the actual PDB files backed up to your PC.  For more information please see this knowledgebase article.
