here's a few thoughts for a future release. by no means do i consider these "critical" and urgent updates, no rush.

my first thought is some kind of calculator that will total up the data stored in the app at any given time. at first just the actually flown data (not pending flights) but it could be good too to be able to see a pre-total of what your planned flights will be. eventually i could see something like this being a type of forward-looking 121/135 times checker that will notify you when you are going to be approaching a 30 in 7 violation some days into the future if the flights go as planned.

this would also help get an idea of what your current totals are..since the current system can't update itself beyond the last PC sync (even with the new sync schedule you need your pc to be online, which i can't do) so at least if you have the last synced data totals, and the currently "not synced" data totals, you can add them together. eventually i think a temporary total calculation would be good. perhaps some kind of way of having a totals page marked as "last synced data plus device data", even if there's some kind of disclaimer that says it's not error checked or something. all the data wouldn't have to be there either, maybe just total flights and total hours with a few others like night, instrument, it's just temporary to give you an idea of your totals until your next pc sync.

finally, i flew with someone last week who had just bought the iPad app and was complaining that there was no way to log "by the day" conveniently. although i do not log this way myself, i think there are quite a few that do. he was new to logbook pro and was trying to find ways to make it work so he didn't have to change the way he logged. the problem he was having was, even though he can put a daily total in the flight entry and specify multiple legs, there was no way to easily add the totals from each flight to arrive at that daily number. the best suggestion i could give him for that was to make a custom column called "leg 1, leg 2, leg 3" etc and manually enter the times for each leg in that, and at the end of the day put the total in the "duration" field. he wasn't concerned with the auto calculate of OOOI times, but just wanted multiple leg duration fields or something. it's an interesting situation that i never thought about before.

like i said, that's not bothering me, but i'm sure there are those out there.

i would like a daily total hours number somewhere if possible though.

Hi Neal,

I thought I'd start a new thread on this to keep things in context.

I had my first day back on the line yesterday to put v1.0.5 through it's paces and, I gotta say, it's starting to resemble a well-oiled piece of machinery! ;) The crashing is no more, the custom text recall is outstanding, the use of the term 'aircraft ident' is much appreciated by us north-of-the-49ers (and others), and all the other refinements just put icing on the cake.

I did, however, find one new problem that seems to have surfaced. Remember the timezone issue we were having with the out/in times? Well, it seems to have been contagious and has now spread to the flight date and out/in time date fields - or at least some variation of it. I haven't been able to pinpoint the specific behaviour of this problem, but I've noticed at least two related issues:

- selecting the blue 'current date/time' arrow doesn't always insert the current zulu date, but instead that of the local time zone
- the actual date selected with the wheel is not what is displayed in the field after being selected, although it is actually still correct when going back in to re-select (this is similar behaviour to what we had with the time issue before)

These two screenshots show the input made on the selector wheel for the in time, and the resulting display in the field, respectively. Notice that the wheel shows the 26th (today) while the field shows the 25th. Obviously it's not saved as 00:23 on the 25th, as the field would not accept an in time earlier than the out time. This specific case occured yesterday while transiting two time zones that were both still the 25th, while it was the 26th zulu.

Attachment 412

These two show a similar case for the selection of the flight date. Again, notice the selection made was the 26th, while the resulting indication was the 25th.

Attachment 409 Attachment 410

It seems to be just an indication problem, as all dates are saved correctly and, when viewed in the lists of flights, appear as they should.

Let me know if there's any more testing I can do out here. I'm on the road for another 3 days, so should be able to play around a bit more. I'll be in and out of data coverage, so should be able to respond here and there.

Thanks again for a great product, and your attention to this latest issue.

Cheers,

Chris

Revisions in version 1.0.5 of Logbook Pro for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad:

FIXED: If you did not have an Internet connection such as you were in airplane mode the device may auto shutdown the app as the app exceeded the time limit when searching for an Internet connection. Customers were advised to turn off Sync on Start in Settings/Synchronization, you can now turn this back on after installing 1.0.5

FIXED: An issue occurred where information added to the sync calls was not being added properly therefore the app could crash when performing a sync. This was a very rare situation and affected a very small number of users, this update resolves this issue

FIXED: When choosing a date that was in a different Daylight Savings Time period, i.e. picking a date in January when the date is now August would cause the stored hour to be one hour off which could result in the event date rolling back a full calendar day. Easily compensated by offsetting as required, this issue is now resolved.

ADDED: AutoFill now occurs on the device. Settings for AutoFill are created in the Options/AutoFill area of the PC edition and sent to the device at sync. AutoFill can be optioned ON/OFF in the Settings/Flight Log Settings area

ADDED: Custom TEXT fields now participate in the Auto-Recall feature and is optioned ON/OFF from the Settings/Flight Log Settings area

ADDED: When tapping PURGE you will now be prompted to purge ALL data or SYNCED data. This allows you to purge Flights that have synced but will not affect Pending flights you may have entered

ADDED: For new users it is now easier to initialize the app as you will be presented a logon screen at first run to enter the Account ID and E-mail, you no longer have to navigate to Settings/Synchronization

ADDED: You can now hide custom columns by section, i.e. all custom TEXT, or all custom YES/NO. Turn custom sections ON/OFF in the Settings/Flight Log Settings area

ENHANCED: Legs input has been moved up under the Route input field. LEGS is an important field to Logbook Pro as it is the count of flights in your reports. Be sure to enter the LEGS value accurately

ENHANCED: When resuming the app on iOS 4 the sync feedback blue rectangle with spinning wheel will show to indicate that sync has occurred on resume

ENHANCED: On iOS 4, if you were last viewing a Report, the report will be refreshed on app resume if Sync on Start is ON

ENHANCED: Sync system is further enhanced preparing for future functionality

Thanks to all for the outstanding feedback and feature requests. Logbook Pro for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad is designed to be a fast, lightweight, reliable, and accurate logbook solution to pair with the leading Logbook Pro PC edition software.

NC Software is proud to announce the release of Logbook Pro 1.10.54. This is another FREE update for our loyal customers. Please read the information below carefully and follow the upgrade instructions to update your software. This update is marked critical and all should install this update at your next opportunity. As always, BACKUP prior to updating (File..Backup).

Revisions in this Release:

Version 1.10.53 added a change to the database that allowed PDA Companions to sync with Professional Edition "clones". This change broke the sync with the Logbook Pro Palm Companion product therefore we had to undo this change. 1.10.54 is now just as it was with all prior versions to 1.10.53 where "clones" cannot be synced with PDA Companions, only Master files. This only affects Professional/Enterprise edition users that use "clones". If you don't know what they are don't worry, it doesn't affect you.

A new "Scheduled Sync" system is now available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users. Scheduled sync is a system where Logbook Pro will sync every specified amount of time, the default is one hour. This allows you to leave Logbook Pro open or minimized on your computer while you go fly or travel. Sync your new flights via your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and Logbook Pro PC edition back at your home or office will automatically sync with the My Sync portal at the specified interval and then update the My Sync portal. This now allows you to have your device updated with your newly added information without having to command a sync from Logbook Pro PC edition. Refer to the documentation for more details. The new settings are available in the My Sync / Account Settings area in Logbook Pro PC edition.

Logbook Pro will now check to see if your data file resides in an invalid working folder such as C:\Program Files\<any folder>. If so you will be prompted to relocate the file either to the default location of /My Documents/My Logbook Pro Files/v1 or a custom folder such as C:\Logbook Pro Data. This will resolve Windows Vista or Windows 7 conflicts with User Account Control (UAC) and eliminate the 10% stall issue some have experienced when updating.

When syncing a PDA Companion to Logbook Pro PC edition the "Flight Cost" field will be calculated if the Aircraft Type in Options/Aircraft has a Cost/Hr specified. This includes Logbook Pro Palm Companion, Pocket PC Companion, iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

A new "Lock" button appears just to the left of the close button (far right) on the sub-toolbar in the four data areas (Certificates, Ratings, History, Spreadsheet Flight Log). When clicked (checked/down) the data area will be locked and disallow edits thereby protecting your data from inadvertent changes. If you wish to make changes or add new information you must click the Lock button again so it is no longer checked.

Default left margin for reports is now one inch to accommodate printing for most Cirrus Elite binders. This will not affect any customized margin settings you may have already made.

Fixed an issue with the Airport Configuration Summary report for flights with simulator time only and no duration

My Sync's "enable autofill" now has a default of unchecked as the new apps starting with 1.0.5 when approved by Apple now support AutoFill on the device (apps should release any day)

Upgrade Instructions:

BACKUP your Logbook Pro data file by clicking File..Backup or choose the backup option when prompted by the software updater within Logbook Pro.

Click Help...About Logbook Pro and take note of the location of your data file should you need to locate it again for any reason

Click Window...Close All to close all data area windows within Logbook Pro

Click Online...Check Web for Updates to initiate the internal software update process

You can alternatively manually uninstall Logbook Pro from the Windows Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features) and then download the full install by clicking here. DATA and REGISTRATIONS are NOT affected by uninstall/reinstall so this is a safe option to update as well.

If you have any questions or require technical support please fill out a support ticket by clicking here.
